"Hey, Dan?" I asked him one day while he was editing his latest video.
"Yeah?"
"If I tell you something, you won't laugh or anything?"
"Nah, man! You're like a brother to me," he said stopping what he was doing to face me.
"Okay, well," I started fiddling with my fingers. "I think... I think I like Maya... As more than a friend..."
Dan stared at me for a bit then said "Well if you like her, then ask her out man!"
"Wait, so don't think it's pathetic?" I asked making sure.
"No, man! She's pretty! Go for it!" he said enthusiastically. "Besides, I'm madly crazy for Lizzy," he added dreamily.
I laughed, "Then if you're 'madly crazy' for Lizzy, go for it!"
"You know what, Phil?" he said grinning, "I think I just might. I'll do it tonight!"
I shook my head, amused. "But how?"
"Be straightforward!" I gave him a look, and he chuckled. "Sorry, Mr. Awkward, forgot you wouldn't do that. Um... I don't know! Go Google it or something."
"Daannn, that's a horrible idea."
"Then figure something out! I don't even know how I'm going to tell Lizzy..."
I sighed. As I was walking out of his room, I got an idea.
"Dan! I'm thinking of inviting her over this evening. Should I tell her to bring Lizzy as well or...?"
He thought for a minute. "Yeah, I gue- No, actually, no. Don't mention Lizzy. I'll text her when I'm done editing."
I nodded and walked away, pulling out my phone. Should I text her or call her?
I decided on a phone call. It was more... Professional.

"Maya!" Lizzy yelled. "Your phone!"
"I'm coming!"
I ran into the living room and grinned. I knew exactly who was calling.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Maya!"
"Phil! Hi! How are you?"
"I'm good, how are you?"
"Yeah, I'm fine."
"So uh Maya, I was wondering, do you want to come over this evening? Just hang out?"
"So I can kick your butt at Guitar Hero again?" I laughed.
"Oh shut up," he laughed. "So is that a yes?"
"Definitely."
"Should I come pick you up so you don't get lost again?"
"Oh no, no way. Otherwise, we'll both end up lost!"
"Fine," he chuckled. "See you!"
"Bye!"
I hung up and started grinning. I turned around to see Lizzy standing there, eyebrows raised at me.
"What?" I said.
"Sooo?"
"He invited me over this evening."
"Oh!" she said, grinning.
"Don't get ideas," I said, rolling my eyes and walking into the room. I decided to read for a bit.
Just as I was about to start the final chapter of my Percy Jackson book, I heard a squeak coming from Lizzy's room.
"Lizzy, you okay bro?" I said, walking over to see what was going on.
"Oh, yeah, fine..."
"That grin's giving it away. What's the plan?"
"Dan-said-he-wants-to-go-out-for-dinner-with-me-tonight."
She said that so fast that I thought I misunderstood her. "Wait, what?"
She took a breath and repeated. "Dan wants to go out for dinner with me tonight."
"No way! That's awesome man!" I grinned with her. "What are you going to wear?"
"I don't know," she shrugged. "Whatever."
"No, not 'whatever'! Wear something nice!"
"It's just as friends," she sighed. "There's no point, Dan doesn't like me as more than a friend."
"And you know that how?"
"I just do!"
I sighed. "Did he specify 'just as friends'?"
"No, but-"
"Then shut the hell up and find something nice to wear!"
That evening, Lizzy and I headed out at the same time.
"Ready?" I said to her as we reached the front door to their apartment.
"Yep," she nodded, and I knocked on the door.
"Hey!" Dan said, opening the door. "You're here! Come in."
The two of us stepped in, and Dan said, "Oh, Phil's in his room, doing a live show or something. He told me to tell you to go in when you came."
"Alright. Are you two leaving now?"
"I guess?" Dan said, looking at Lizzy who shrugged. "Yeah, we're heading then. Let me grab my jacket."
He walked into his room and I grinned at Lizzy. They said their goodbyes then left, and I walked over to Phil's room. I listened to him speaking even though I couldn't make out half of it. When there was a moment of silence, I knocked on the door.
"Come in!" he said from inside.
"Hey!" I said.
"Oh hey Maya!" he grinned at me. "Come, join me!"
I sat down beside him and waved at the computer.
"Guys, you remember Maya, right?"
"Hi!" I said. "I just came over to kick Phil's butt at video games, I don't want to interrupt anything!"
"No, it's fine," Phil smiled at me. We just sat there, looking at each other for a few seconds.
Damn, he had some really beautiful eyes.
He turned back to face the screen. "Now, what was I even saying?"
