18 - Keep Calm And Don't Let Me Go
[Maya's POV]
"Lizzy, honestly," I started as the door swung shut behind Phil. "Why can't you just be happy for me?"
She sighed and sat down on the other side of my bed. "I am happy for you. But I don't know if getting back together with Phil is the best idea."
"He needs me, I need him. I really do not see what's so bad about that."
"I don't want you to get hurt."
I stood up, frowning. "I'm a big girl, Lizzy. I know how to deal with all this by myself."
"No, you obviously don't!" she cried, standing up to face me as well. "You're becoming... Obsessed with this one guy, and it's not healthy."
"Obsessed?! Me?! What about you?! 'Oh, I still like Finn, but I think he hates me, what do I do'... You droned on and on and on about it."
"Don't bring that up! It has nothing to do wi-"
"It has everything to do with the current situation! You throw stones but you forget that you're also living in a glass house!"
"Look, if you can't take my advice, fine then! You're just gonna get hurt and spend the rest of your life-"
I didn't want to hear what she had to say next. I grabbed the first thing that I could find, which happened to be a glass, and smashed it on the ground.
She looked shocked. I looked her straight in the eye and said, in the calmest voice possible, "Phil and I care about each other. And this is my life. I will fuck it up if I want to. Your opinion is not needed."
With that, she stormed off. I sunk down on my desk chair. Barely a minute later, I heard the door open, and I looked up with a glare. When my eyes met Phil's, my gaze softened and I had to look away.
"What did you do?" he asked softly.
"Broke a glass," I muttered in response. "She wasn't listening to me."
"Maya," he sighed, and I just knew he was rolling his eyes slightly. He walked over to me, sitting down opposite the chair and frowning when he broke more glass under his shoes. "I don't know what to tell you."
I felt my eyes brimming with tears. "Just... Promise not to leave me this time, okay? I'm a hard person to deal with but... If I ever walk away like that again, just follow me. I don't want to lose you even though sometimes it seems like I don't care."
He took my hand and smiled at me. "I've learned my lesson. I'm not going anywhere, I promise."
I threw myself into his arms and we both fell backwards onto the bed. I hugged him tightly. "I love you, Phil."
"I love you, too."
