17 - Better's Just Whatever
[Phil's POV]
"What happened?" I asked as Maya stepped into the room. I was sitting on her desk chair, fiddling with some pen.
"What do you think?" she replied.
"He thinks this is a bad idea?"
"Yeah," she nodded, sitting down on her bed, facing me, knees bumping together. "Obviously."
"I don't blame him though..."
She frowned. "What do you mean?"
I chuckled slightly, shaking my head.
"Tell me," she insisted, putting her hands on my knees.
"It's just that..." I trailed off. "It's just that, you could do better."
She smiled, rolling my eyes. "Shut up, Phil." She leaned over and kissed me. "That would be no fun, would it?"
"What do you mean by that?" I asked, smiling a bit.
"Well," she started, kissing me again. "To me, you're perfect. You're the best. You set my standards too high, you should stop being so amazing."
That made me laugh, and she joined as well. Gosh, I had missed her laugh so much. I stretched my arms out and hugged her. "I love you," I mumbled.
She hugged me tighter. "I love you, too."
I pulled away slightly, kissing her again. I felt her smile against my lips, and I tentaviely separated mine.
But before I could make another move, a knock on the door made us snap apart.
Maya scowled. "Who is it?"
I looked over at her flushed cheeks. I must look the same.
"It's Lizzy!"
"What do you want?"
"Can I come in? Are you decent?"
"Sure, whatever!"
She sighed slightly and looked at me with an apologetic face.
"It's fine," I mouthed as Lizzy stepped into the room.
"Hey guys! What's up?" she asked, leaning against the cupboard.
"What do you want?"
"I just came to talk!"
"That's not why you're here."
"I just think you two are stupid. And I'm making sure you're not doing anything stupider than you what just did."
"Excuse-me?" Maya frowned.
"Getting back together. I mean..."
"Lizzy, I don't need your input on how I should run my life."
"I'm giving you guys advice!"
"We don't need it!"
I bit my lip, watching the two of them with a worried expression. They weren't actually going to turn this into a huge argument... Were they?
Before they could, I interrupted them. "Um, I think I should leave..."
"Yes, you should," Lizzy said as Maya said, "Don't you dare."
My eyes widened and I recoiled slightly. I didn't want to leave but I didn't want to witness this...
"I'm gonna go talk to Dan," I mumbled finally, kissing Maya on the cheek and walking past Lizzy, head bent.
I found him in his bedroom, Holly crawling around on the floor while he was playing Sonic.
I knocked on the open door. When he looked up, I smiled slightly. "Can I come in?"
"Sure, man," he nodded, and I walked over and sat on the bean bag. Holly crawled towards me and I laughed, picking her up. "Hey there!"
She gurgled in response.
"They're arguing?" Dan sighed, not looking away from the screen.
"How did you guess?" I answered sarcastically.
Suddenly, the sound of glass shattering caught our attention.
"Shit," I muttered, putting Holly down and getting up. Dan followed suit. We looked at each other before hurrying to Maya's bedroom just as Lizzy came storming out.
I looked at Dan, and he nodded, then turned to follow Lizzy. I took a breath and stepped into the bedroom.
